11:36 am - Canada starts it's crackdown on the internet.
200GB to 25GB: Canada gets first, bitter dose of metered Internet
Yup, I guess the Canadian government got a little tired of that 'freedom of speech' going on someplace that they couldn't regulate. As always with any government, expect prices to rise more and more to force off things that the Government doesn't want you to hear.
And for those who think I'm full of it, this IS the country that just outlawed the Dire Straits song 'Money for Nothing'.

5:47 pm - 2008 predictions about an Obama Presidency
In 2008 I made the following predictions about an Obama Presidency (http://banner.insanejournal.com/49665.html)
Lets see how I did.

11:53 pm - For those of you who use amazon and firefox
When you go to your recommendations, are the area's blank? Mine are now, and I have no freaking clue why.
I thought it was better privacy or some other plug in, but disabling those didn't help.

edit: I think it's pretty good privacy. I blew everything away and deleted all the files and directories and re-installed. Now it's working. So I'm not going to add any of the plug in's this time, (maybe add blocker) and just live with firefox being unsecured.

Because apparently the people making the plugins aren't very good.

5:19 pm - My Opinion on Flash:
Letting Graphic Designers decide which type of software to use on a website is about the same as letting hair dressers fly airliners; it's going to end in disaster every time.

11:42 am - An unpleasant thought
Russia has been trying to retake former slave states to rebuild it's empire. Will we see a repeat of Czechoslovakia here? Will some new leader arise who calls Russia for help? Or will something happen and the Russian's roll in to 'stabilize' Poland? Seeing as Obama has pretty much withdrawn protection from Poland, which he also dissed pretty heavily not that long ago, I have to wonder.

Russia is arming Venezuela, promising them nukes. Russia is arming Iran, helping them with nukes. They attacked Georgia not that long ago....
Not a good time for a weak President who treats our allies like shit, is it? The affairs of the next few months may be very interesting.

11:39 am - So did Putin do it?
Sadly today the President of Poland and a number of other important Poles died today in a plane crash. The whole situation sounds, bizarre, to put it mildly. Putin, a former KGB assassin (who has little love for the Polish President and threatened to nuke Poland not that long ago) has been put in charge of the investigation.

I don't know, I'm thinking assassination here, because think about it, Putin runs Russia, he is completely in charge. You don't 'put him in charge' unless he directs it. This would be like say President Bush being killed in a plane crash and the head of the FAA putting President Obama in charge of the investigation (except of course President Obama is not a former KGB Assassin and does not have half the power Putin does), a man who knows nothing about plane crashes, after the entire thing happens under extremely suspicious circumstances.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more this looks like yet another Putin Assassination. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

4:03 pm - An Update on the Propaganda post
It turns out the reason those gunships were there was because an American patrol had come under attack and called for air support. Guess who had apparently carried out the attack?

If as a journalist you are going to embed with terrorists, just as journalists who embed with troops, you may end up dead.

11:49 pm - Anatomy of a propaganda piece
Some of you may have seen the video over at Wikileaks that shows a US Army gunship strike on two 'reporters' who were killed along with a number of other 'civilians'. A friend inadvertently pointed me to it. I suspect he will probably not like my analysis. Were these people shot by mistake? Probably not, from the sounds of the communication at that point, the video puts us right in the midst of a free fire zone, obviously there was something going on, and it was definitely a war zone.

The video starts off with a lot of nifty agit-prop to set the stage. The Camera that is show I'm honestly not sure is giving the same POV as the lead speaker on the video. They use word bubbles carefully to redirect your attention so when you hear the guys talking about an RPG and an AK-47 you think they're really pretty stupid.

But if you look closely, at 3:38, 3:40, and 3:49 you can clearly see: one guy has an RPG and one guy has an AK-47. Another man appears to have some other sort of weapon but it's not clear. Now considering that foreign journalists HAVE embedded with terrorists on numerous occasions, and that one foreign journalist HAS been caught in the act of support and acting as terrorists, being a journalist isn't going to save your ass when you're in the middle of a bunch of terrorists in a war zone.

Pics from video behind cut
So you know what to look for )

As for the last part, anyone who claims that the pilots, who have a screen SMALLER than the one you watched it on initially saw the kids in the van, is a lying sack of shit. I had no idea there were kids in there and I was looking for them. They had to enhance the picture to show us that. And that does bring up the next question: What kind of a man stops in the middle of an active ambush, in an active WAR ZONE with CHILDREN in the car? REALLY? Hey, if I got my kids in the car, and I see my best friend in my entire life bleeding to death on the side of the road and there's shooting going on in the area, SORRY BUD BUT I AIN'T FUCKING STOPPING! Obviously people in that area think children are pretty fucking worthless if they're going to bring them into a combat zone. (Yes, people who do that shit piss me off)

11:48 pm - This guy lays it out nice and simple
The question is about why do politicians and reporters say it's our fault that the muslims want to kill us. The answer starts at 1:41 and is delivered excellently. This is the kind of stuff they don't teach in public schools anymore.

No Nukes, even in Self Defense
Obama just put a huge 'kick me' sign on the back of the USA. How long before there are takers? Last time a President did this, it took a few years, but it did happen. History repeats.

5:41 pm - The Onion: "We Can't Top That"
(Stolen from lj user pogo101)

The Onion, a Madison-based satire publication, today announced its dissolution.

"It's not that we're not making money. We are," said an Onion spokesman. "It's just that, this morning, when we saw that the Nobel folks had given Obama the peace prize, we knew it was all over for us. Because we just can't compete with that."

5:43 pm - Two Must Read Articles on Socialized Medicine
If you haven't read these, you must.

http://spectator.org/archives/2009/07/28/who-will-tell-michael-j-fox-he/
(Who will tell Michael J Fox that he must die?)

From the article:
• QALY: Quality-Adjusted Life Year. A formula devised by left-wing policy wonks that purports, as David Catron has so ably illuminated on these pages, to measure the worth of your life by assigning a numerical value to each year of your existence. In Catron's words: "A year of perfect health, for example, is given a value of 1.0 while a year of sub-optimum health is rated between 0 and 1. If you are confined to a wheelchair, a year of your life might be valued at half that of your ambulatory neighbor. If you are blind or deaf, you also score low. All that remains is to assign a specific dollar value to the QALY and, voilà, your life has a price tag."

This is all a bit dry to the taste, isn't it? QALY, Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research, HR 3200. Blah blah blah. Let's add the fizz to this baby.

So. Who will tell Michael J. Fox he needs to die?

Remember, someone else decides if you get the care and ALL care WILL be rationed. And if you aren't worth living to the person deciding, you don't get health care. This is a FACT in ALL countries with socialized medicine.

12:46 pm - Huh...
I didn't know Obama had food tasters. Did previous presidents? Or is this just another sign of what's to come?
President Obama's French food tested by 'taster'

The Failure of Obamanomics
The question is, has it ever worked? The stimulus package was a total and complete failure. As predicted, as happened with Bush's 2008 tax cut, as happened with the Japanese stimulus packages of the '90s, fearful consumers sat on their money and wouldn't spend it. Keynesian economics didn't work. Again.

The Man Who Cried Doom
Good article on the Global Warming fraud an that NASA Scientist (Hansen) who is a fake (Page 2 has the good stuff). BTW, did everyone catch that news on how Gore will earn about 6 BILLION dollars with the cap and trade scam? Yeah, no wonder he's for all this BS, he's profiting off it. That man is -evil-.

Freeman Dyson Takes On The Climate Establishment
Good interview. Quote: My objections to the global warming propaganda are not so much over the technical facts, about which I do not know much, but it’s rather against the way those people behave and the kind of intolerance to criticism that a lot of them have. I think that’s what upsets me.
Now, how many of you on my friend's list have seen me get this treatment because I am skeptical and have the gall to ask for some proofs? If something is 'obvious' then the proof should be easy, right?

Another good quote:It is also true that the whole livelihood of all these people depends on people being scared.

A must read.

8:51 am - What woke me up this morning
So I got woken up by a helicopter this morning. Guy was out there at least a half hour, maybe longer. Took a few pics off the roof (cause I thought he'd be leaving any minute). Then got the telephoto on, ran down and got some close-ups. They were putting the A/C units on top of the new Mega Target they're building nearby.

Behind a cut cause of pics
